The Nursing of the Prophet, sallallahu ^alyhi wa sallam
All praise is due to Allah, we praise Him, seek His forgiveness and guidance and we seek refuge with Allah from our own evil and ill doings. The one Whom Allah guides no one shall be able to misguide him and the one whom Allah makes misguided no one shall be able to guide him. I testify that no one is God except Allah, and that Muhammad, is the slave and Messenger of Allah, may Allah raise his rank and protect his nation from what he fears for them, and the rank of every Messenger He had sent.
Thereafter, O slaves of Allah I order you and myself with piety and Godfearingness, for if they reside in the heart of one, he will inevitably be triumphant in this world and the Hereafter. Allah said in The Glorious Qur’an, in Surah al-Qalam, 4 : (وَإنَّكَ لَعَلَى خُلُقٍ عَظِيٍم) , which means: Indeed you Muhammad have the greatest manners.
O beloved Muslims, we live a breeze of goodness and Muhammadiyan gentle moments as we commemorate the birth of the most beloved of the creations to Allah, ta^ala and as we commemorate the birth of the best of the creations amongst the Arabs and non Arabs and as we commemorate the birth of Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ^alayhi wa sallam.
What a beauteous and great commemoration it is and what a great honorable occasion that spread the illumination throughout the entire world. What a great incident it is that changed the history of the Arabian Peninsula from warring and desolate tribes, destroying one another, taking pride in vileness and prohibitions, raising the banner of associating partners with Allah and worshipping idols, to a cradle of knowledge, and enlightenment, and belief, and a state of manners, justice and safety, all due to the guidance provided by prophet Muhammad, sallallahu ^alayhi wa sallam.
Praise be to Allah and may Allah raise the rank and increase the honor of our great Prophet Muhammad sallallahu ^alayhi wa sallam.
Thereafter, we have mentioned in our speech last week about the good news and indications and signs the happened before the birth of the Prophet, sallallahu ^alayhi wa sallam, insha^Allah today we will talk about the story of the Nursing of the Prophet, sallallahu ^alayhi wa sallam.
The Prophet’s father died when he was two months old, it was said also that it was when his mother was still pregnant with him, and it was said other than that. His mother ‘Aminah Bintu Wahab nursed him first.
Then Halimah as-Sa^diyyah nursed him, Halimah herself narrated the story of her nursing the Prophet, sallallahu ^alayhi wa sallam, she said: “It was the year of draught when I traveled to Makkah with other women from the tribe of Sa^d seeking to breast-feed babies. I was riding a donkey. Our camel hardly produced any milk, and my child kept us awake crying out of hunger. Even my breast hardly had any milk for my child. We had nothing but hope. We reached Makkah. When the breast-feeder women learnt that baby Muhammad was an orphan, none of the women accepted to take him in to breast-feed. The breast-feeder women were hoping for the financial generosity of the child’s father and Muhammad was an orphan. Each of us thought that his mother would not be as helpful. We kept refusing to take Muhammad, until all of the other women found children to breast feed except me. Hating to return empty handed, I told my husband that I will take that orphan Muhammad.
I swear by Allah, the moment I put him on my lap, my breast became full with milk. He took my breast for as much as he needed and my child did the same. That night my husband went out to check on our camel, and to his surprise its udder was full of milk. Soon we were both full and satisfied. My husband looked at me and said: ” I swear by Allah, you have picked a blessed soul, our boys have slept.””
The Prophet’s growth was unlike any other person’s. He used to grow in one day as much as a regular child would grow in a whole month. He would grow in one month as much as a regular child would grow in a whole year.
One day while the Prophet was playing with his brothers (sons of Halimah) behind the house, an extraordinary thing happened. The Prophet’s brother ran terrified to his parents and said: “Help my brother, two men came to him and opened his stomach.” Halimah and her husband ran out to the Prophet. They found him standing with a pale face. Halimah hugged him and so did her husband who asked: “What’s with you son?!!” The Prophet replied that two men wearing white clothes came to him, laid him down and opened his abdomen, but he did not know what they did.
The fact is that those two men were the angels Jibril and Mika’il who came in the shape of men. It was said that they opened his abdomen and washed it with Zamzam water, hail water, and snow water. Then they stitched it by the Will of Allah and stamped him on his back between his shoulders with an oval mark, which was the seal of Prophethood.
Even as a growing child, Prophet Muhammad displayed particular habits. If he ever wanted to urinate or defecate, he would go so far where no houses are in sight. When he used to go through the valleys and the mountain every tree and stone he would pass by would say: “Peace be upon you O Messenger of Allah.” The Prophet would look left and right, but he would not see anyone.
It was said that Halimah returned him to his mother after two years and two months, and when Halimah returned him to his mother ‘Aminah he stayed with his mother until he became six years old. She then took him to see his uncles Baniyy ^Adiyy, the son of an-Najjar in Madinah. She stayed there for one month, on her way back to Makkah she died in al-Abwa’ leaving the Prophet to be raised by his grandfather ^Abdul Muttalib. It was said that when the Prophet’s mother died his grandfather hugged him and showed feelings toward the Prophet that he never showed toward his own son.
When his grandfather ^Abdul-Muttalib was dying, he recommended to the Prophet’s uncle Abu Talib to take care of the Prophet. The Prophet’s uncle used to love Prophet Muhammad, sallallahu ^alayhi wa sallam, very much, and he used to favor him over his own children.
May Allah raise the rank of our master Muhammad, the Prophet with the high status and great prestige, and all the Prophets and Messengers.
Thereafter, I ask Allah to forgive me and you.

O slaves of Allah I order you and myself with piety and Godfearingness
Allah ta^ala says in His Glorious Qur’an, in surah al-Hajj, 1-2,
These verses mean: O people be pious and God fearing, for the rocking of the Day of Judgment is a great event, when you observe it each nursing woman shall be bewildered from what it is nursing ad every pregnant female shall deliver, and you shall see the people drunk like yet they will not be drunk, for the torture of Allah is immense.
O slaves of Allah I remind you that Allah has ordered you with a great matter, He ordered you with saying as–Salah and as-salam for His choicest and most honorable Prophet; Allah said in surah al-Ahzab, 56:
This verse means: Allah raises the rank of the Prophet and grants him safety from what he fears for his nation, and His Angels say As–salah for the Prophet; O you who believed do say As–salah and As-salam for the prophet many times.
O Allah raise the rank of Prophet Muhammad and increase his prestige and honor and protect his nation from what he fears for them, the same as you bestowed on Ibrahim and the family members of Ibrahim, O Allah you are the Praised and Glorified one.
O Allah we have made a supplication to you so answer our supplication and forgive our sins and forgive that we have done injustice to ourselves. O Allah forgive the sins of the believers, male and female, those who are alive and those who have died. O Allah bestow upon us goodness in this world and in the Hereafter and protect us from Hellfire. O Allah make us guided and among those who guide others and do not make us misguided and do not make us among those who misguide others. O Allah cover our short comings and comfort our fears and make us satisfied toward our burdens and protect us from the evil of what we fear.
O slaves of Allah, know that Allah orders you to do justice, benevolence and to be kind to your kin, and forbids you to commit vileness, unlawful matters and injustice, and admonishes you so you may remember. Do remember Allah the Magnificent and Allah will take care of you, do thank Him and He will increase your endowments, do ask Him to forgive you and He will forgive you, and be God-fearing and He will guide you out of your hardships.
