Burial of the Dead
(The minimum obligatory burial of the dead requires) that he is buried in (a hole dug in the ground which prevents the smell from rising) after the hole is refilled with soil, (and protects the body of the dead person from wild animals.) from them digging him up and eating his body. (It is recommended-sunnah) to perform that which is more complete, which is (to dig the grave as deep as a man’s height with his arms extended overhead) such that a man can stand in the grave with his arms raised/extended overhead; and that is the measurement of four and a half cubits, (and to widen it.) i.e. the grave. (It is obligatory to direct the chest of the dead) have the chest of the deceased (towards the Qiblah).) by laying the deceased on his side, with his chest facing the Qiblah. (It is unlawful (haram) to bury the dead in a mausoleum.) A mausoleum is a building in which deceased’s people’s bodies are put on each other before the bodies decay. Furthermore, there is nothing which prevents the smell from rising there.
