“No saying is uttered except that it would be recorded by Raqib and ^Atid,”

Let the intelligent person think about the Saying of Allah,

﴿مَّا يَلْفِظُ مِن قَوْلٍ إِلَّا لَدَيْهِ رَ‌قِيبٌ عَتِيدٌ

[which means] “No saying is uttered except that it would be recorded by Raqib and ^Atid,” for certainly whoever thought about that knows that whatever he speaks about, whether seriously or jokingly, while pleased or angry, is recorded by the two angels. So would it please the intelligent person to see these wicked words in his book when it is presented to him on Judgment Day? In fact, that would disturb him and sadden him at a time when regret will have no benefit.  So let him take care to preserve his tongue from the talk that disturbs him if presented to him in the Hereafter. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said,

خَصْلَتانِ ما إنْ تجَمَّلَ الخلائِقُ بمِثْلِهما حُسْنُ الخلُقِ وطولُ الصَّمْتِ

[which means] “There are two attributes that, if only the creation would beautify themselves with the likes of those two: good manners and lengthy silence.” This was narrated by ^Abdullah Ibn Muhammad Abu Bakr Ibn Abi-d-Dunya Al-Qurashiyy in Kitabu-s-Samt.
